On the subject of clerics and raids

I have noticed that it has become increasingly difficult to get enough clerics to do raids lately. Before I continue let me commend those who play clerics regularly. It is an expensive and often thankless job that is vital to the success of virtually every quest. My only cleric is level 4 and I don't have much experiance playing him in a group. After reading some posts on the general forums, it became apparent that some players are reluctant to bring clerics on raids because there are only a handful of cleric specific loot items, thus lowering their chances of getting raid loot. I'm not saying that the clerics in our guild feel that way, but I think it is a legitimate concern. Therefore I propose that we offer an incintive to players who bring clerics on a raid. Here's my idea. If you bring a cleric on a raid and do not get raid loot, the next time you are elligible to roll on raid loot (with any character) you get a one time +10 to your roll. The hard part would be keeping track of who is elligible for the +10. Maybe this is unfeasable or just a downright silly idea, but I'd be interested in hearing people's opinions. Does anyone have any ideas for other possible incentives?

Re: On the subject of clerics and raids

As a cleric I appreciate the sentiment, it's really nice to see someone appreciate the hard work that goes into being a cleric. But the looting policy as it is. seems adequate for raids, to me at least. Loot is a big factor of doing raids yes, but I've always felt that as long as it's a guild raid, regardless of who wins the loot, it is going to a good place. The guild usually provides wands and scrolls for the clerics for raids, making our expenses much less. For those of us that are not maxed on xp, we'll get great xp from a raid, on top of favor plus every raid has a minor chest and reward that doesn't usually have a great item in it, but there is always a chance of something nice. As for raid attendance, theres not much to do about it. A lot of people are very busy in their lives right now and are unable to play as often as they'd like. Raid attendance will pick up eventually, we just need to give it some time. In the meantime, it looks like our officers are trying very hard to schedule raids in times that are accessible to the majority of our guild. With a little effort, we'll be able to fill up our raids with the necessary classes.

I would lik to agree with Minn. As there are several members who play uber clerics and often have it placed upon them to cleric on raids and not play there alts. It may look like they are not getting the best of the game. I would say for me it is not the case. One of the reasons I created Killean was to give a couple of those people a break. I am of course working on my favor with Killean and most times are playing him.

I have two lowbies and so does Bjorq. We are always interested in working on those. Hott, Sweet, Lomax, and Cable Dude and Minn all have lowbies that I believe would love to have another join us to get your cleric leveled up.

Hey Moshpitato ! I think I speak for all the clerics in our guild when I say your post is much appreciated.

Pretty much what Minn said sums up what I feel as well.
The other officers and myself are working on getting the timing of raids right for everyone. This way we can make sure to plan ahead and have plenty of clerics ready for raids.

The guild provides some wands for us when we raid and it's only fair to keep the looting system the same for everyone.
Although your post was very thoughtful and creative.

There are so many different characters that can be played in the game.

A cleric has to be strong and know what they are doing-obviously. Only a select few in our guild play their clerics regularly and will generally be ready for any raid.

If you know of anyone who is not guilded and is a cleric (or just a good player in general), have them apply, we are trying to recruit more good players. I would be happy to set up a time to play with them and see if they would make a good fit- I am sure any officer or memeber would.

Not to worry, in time we will have this issue solved.
Thanks you very much for your post and your thoughts.

Ell

Just wanted to say a quick thanks to everyone who responded. It's really encouraging to see such positive attitudes from everyone. It makes me really happy to be in this guild. There's no one else I'd rather play this game with. See you all in the ones and zeroes!

Re: On the subject of clerics and raids

A good point was brought up in the original post. Most of the raid loot does favor other classes. And the way the guild handles raid loot means you are S.O.L if you go on a raid and already have the 1 or 2 items that you are eligable to roll on.

The way the raid loot is handled now. You can roll on a item if the officers say it would benefit your class over the other classes. The problem with this system is that you get people who have been on 15+ raids without every getting 1 item. Then you have people who are lucky enough to have multiple raid loot items on different characters because they happened to be playing the right class at the right time.

I think the guild should try different system to determine raid loot. A point system that favors people who raid more vs being the right class at the right time.

A successful raid gets every person in the raid 2 points.
A unsuccessful raid gets every person in the raid 1 point.
Points are used to bid on raid loot items.
Points are saved until a item drops that you want to bid on.
Points are earned and can be used by any of your characters.
Anyone can bid on any item if they have the points.
Loot goes to the highest bidder.
If multiple people bid the same amount of points on a item and nobody is able to ouitbid, those people roll and highest roll wins the item.
You may only win one item per raid.

Anyone have a opinion on this, post a reply.
